Day 10. Favorite Pop Culture Reference within the show:

I have been a fan of Sherlock Holmes since I was a young kid, stumbling upon Granada's Sherlock Holmes, on PBS.  So I get real excited every time I spot or hear a Sherlock Holmes reference in Doctor Who.  There are tons of Holmesian reference during the 11th Doctor era, which seeing who the show runner is, it is not TOO surprising, but there  were others before then of course.

Here is a list of a few references through out the years ( They are not going to be in any order)

1. The picture above ( the one I took for the challenge) is from Angels Take Manhattan : The 1st Chapter called "The Dying Detective", is a reference to  one of the short stories from the "His Last Bow" short stories collection. 
2. Also in Angels Take Manhattan, when The Doctor and Amy go to China, the title card said" China, 221 B.C"  "221B" is the address in which Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson live.
3. In The Snowmen, Dr. Simeon said that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was most likely writing his stories based of Vastra and Jenny. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is the author of the Sherlock Holmes stories.
4.  Also in The Snowmen, The Doctor dresses up as Sherlock Holmes when he confronts Dr. Simeon for the first time. He also tries his hand at deducing like Sherlock, failing horribly. Also during this bit he calls  The Great Intelligence "Moriarty". Also the music during this scene is very similar to BBC's Sherlock 
5.  Speaking of the Doctor dressing as Sherlock Holmes. The 4th Doctor does the same thing in the story The Talons of Weng-Chaing (Funnily enough Tom Baker, the 4th Doctor, will later on go on to play Sherlock Holmes in a mini series of The Hound of the Baskervilles. There are quite a few other references to Sherlock Holmes in that story as well.  Such as; there was a housekeeper named Mrs. Hudson.  Also, this was is a bit of a stretch but, the character of Professor Litefoot was similar  to Dr. Watson.

 There are more references in stories, but those are the ones that stand out to me.  Plus there is a novel called All-Consuming Fire, in which the 7th Doctor meets Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson.
