Why I Love Doctor Who

With the 50th anniversary just two days away, as I write this, I wanted to talk about why I love Doctor Who so much. I have only been a fan for about 3 years now, but it feels like I have been a Whovian for my entire life.
When I first started watching the show, I thought it was just going to be a British Sci-Fi show about an alien who travels through time and space. Well.... I wasn't wrong with that assessment, but neither was I fully correct. Doctor Who is so much more than that. Yes, there are things that you would expect from a typical Sci-Fi television show, but there are also elements from all types of other genres. They even touch on the Supernatural and Fantasy, even if it usually ends being a scientific explanation. This is going to sound strange but I love how emotional I get due to this show. I have laughed,  jumped for joy, let out loud fangirl SQUEEES, yelled in anger, and also sobbed my heart out due to these fictional characters.

Another thing that I truly love about Doctor Who is also one of the most important things about the show: Change.  Other people may complain about it, I enjoy it. Besides if there wasn't any change. the show wouldn't have made out of the 60's, and I most likely wouldn't be able to blog about this show now.. just two days shy of The 50th Anniversary. How many shows can say that they had 11 ((soon to be 12)) actor play the same character, yet they were a different character.....in a way. Then there is the companions, there has been quite a few. Whether you loved or hated  any of the companions,  you have to admit that they all played important roles in the Doctor's life.  Of course I can't forget to mention  all the behind the scenes changes. We have had different show runners, story writers, directors, script editors, producers, music composers, etc, etc. Once again, you may not like a certain show runner, writer, director.... but you have to admit they are all important and helped make this show the success that it is. Another great thing about the show, is that thanks to books, and Big Finish Audio,  Doctor Who is pretty much timeless. They gave the Doctors from the Classic Series a second chance at being The Doctor. Especially the 8th Doctor, who only had one television movie back in '96.

As much as I love this show, I have to admit my most favorite thing that came from being a Whovian, is the friends that I have made. Thanks to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Podcast, blogs, and fan-sites, I have found some wonderful people, who quickly became close friends. ( I hope they say same about me). Despite never meeting them outside of the internet, I have come to care for them as much as my friends outside of the compute, and not just because we like the same show. I do hope, though, that I get the chance to physically meet everyone one day.

To sum it up, I am real thankful that I'm now a Whovian. Doctor Who has helped me through some tough time, these last couple of years.  I would list everyone I would like to thank for this show, but I  would need to list everyone who put their hands in the pie of Doctor Who. I want to take a second to say Thank You to everyone who have been part of Doctor Who, but are not here today to celebrate the 50th. You may not be here any more, but you are never forgotten. I would really love the Thank, my very dear friend Jessica Dyer, who was the one who introduce me to the Doctor.  I also want to say thank you to all my friends that I made during this wonderful journey.
The last thing I want to say before I finish this is: CONGRATULATIONS DOCTOR WHO!!! 50 years is amazing! I love everything that has already happen with this show, and can't wait to see what is in store for the years in front of us!

  2. Love this post! I may use it (or at least part of it) for my Doctor Who presentation next Wednesday, if that's alright with you, Brittany.
